The iPhone 11 Pro Max was launched alongside the iPhone 11 in September 2019. It’s not just bigger than the basic iPhone 11, it has big upgrades to its screen technology, camera system, battery, storage, and water resistance, too. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is roughly the same size as the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and doesn’t give away too much in performance or features. If you can live without 5G, it may be a worthwhile cheaper alternative.
Features
iPhones have always led the way for style, and despite their bigger size, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is no exception. Crafted from surgical grade stainless steel with glass front and back, the phone looks as fresh today as it did at launch. Like other recent iPhones, the iPhone 11 Pro Max shrugs off dust and water - it’s tested to a depth of four metres for up to 30 minutes.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max adds a third telephoto camera to the iPhone 11’s dual 12-megapixel array. The system offers a 4x optical zoom, with up to 10x of digital zoom. Features including optical image stabilisation and a brilliant night mode mean that the iPhone 11 Pro Max deals superbly with holiday snaps, and offers fantastic portrait shots.
If you want to shoot video like a pro, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is game. It can handle both 1080p HD and 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second - enough to capture every detail. Optical image stabilisation helps to keep everything steady, even when using the 6X digital zoom. You can even shoot slo-mo at up to 240 frames per second!
The iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 6.5” OLED screen. It’s a major improvement over the 6.1” LCD screen found on the standard iPhone, offering far superior brightness and contrast. At 458 pixels per inch (ppi) compared to 326ppi, it also produces crisper and more detailed images. In fact, it’s far more comparable to the screens you’ll find in the iPhone 12 range, particularly the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max uses Apple’s own A13 Bionic chip. It’s not as fast as the latest generation A14 Bionic, but the iPhone 11 Pro Max can hold its own against all but the iPhone 12, or the fastest Android competition. There’s still plenty of grunt for games, multimedia and creativity.
Apple’s battery and processor optimisations, together with the efficient OLED screen and a bigger battery, mean that the iPhone 11 Pro Max can play video for up to 20 hours on a charge - a couple more than even the iPhone 11 Pro can manage. There’s support for Qi wireless charging, which helps you grab a convenient top-up. Alternatively, use the Lightning connector with a 20W adaptor and you’ll charge to 50% in just 30 minutes.
